TRURO, N.S.- Two local artists tied for first place in Truro’s annual Art Acquisition.
Alison Fielding was one of the winners, with her tapestry called A Canada Story and Christene Sandeson tied with her wood painted piece, Moon over Marsh.
This is only the second time two artists have won the contest. Both pieces will be hung in the Truro Town Hall.
Samantha Madore, Truro’s special events and culture coordinator, says this was as well the second largest year for the acquisition.
“We’re so happy with the turnout of entries,” she said “We had such a nice variety of art work.”
This year there was 23 artists competing and 54 submissions entered. Artists could enter up to three pieces.
Among this year’s submissions were paintings, woodcarvings, glass-work and more.
Two other artists were named honorable mentions. Jen Power with her watercolour painting Joseph Howe Falls and Katherine Burris with a folk-art painting, Skating at the library.
The art show is running from April 6-27 at the McCarthy Hall Gallery at the Nova Scotia Community College Campus.
Since 2007 the Town of Truro and the Truro Art Society have been hosting the annual event.
