COLCHESTER COUNTY, N.S.- If you’ve always wanted to walk to British Columbia, you can join Colchester County residents on their eight-week journey.
But, they won’t actually be leaving the province.
Recreation support clerk, Jennifer Boiduk, was at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre March 29, to kick-start the Step into Spring campaign.
“We’re just trying to encourage people to get out and get moving,” said Boiduk.
It’s $10 to register and that gets you a step-count pedometer, LED flashers, walking tips and more to help out along the way. By tracking your steps through the week, you’ll be entered in a weekly and grand prize draw.
By the end of the program, May 26, the goal is to reach a combined total of steps, to walk from Truro to Victoria, B.C., Boiduk said.
“It’s even more of a motivation to get stepping.”
You still have time to register, but the step count officially begins April 1.
So far, mainly seniors from the RECC’s walking track have registered but everyone is encouraged to apply, Boiduk said.
“Anyone can do it, you can challenge a friend or a coworker.”
Register by visiting:
Tatamagouche Library, Truro’s Douglas Street recreation centre, Bible Hill recreation, Town of Stewiacke hall, and the Colchester County recreation office.
Track your steps at any of the registration offices, or online once the program begins at: https://www.participaction.com/en-ca/programs/participaction-150-play-list
