TRURO, N.S. – There is a new way you can help the Truro Homeless Outreach Society, that doesn’t involve opening your wallet.
Andrea Thompson is their secretary board of directors. She said, if you’re not redeeming your Shoppers Drug Mart optimum points, the society will take them off your hands.
“I just knew this was something we had to take advantage of.”
The society just registered for the Shoppers Love program. You can go online and transfer your points to the organization’s card, so they can do the shopping for what’s really needed.
Thompson usually forgets about her points, until Shoppers asks for her card. She believes others are the same way.
“I know a lot of people who want to help financially, but can’t afford it. This doesn’t cost anything, and it really would help.”
In January, the Truro Homeless Outreach Society served 266-bagged lunches.
The society’s main project is the lunches. Sometimes they use two loafs of bread and three cans of meat a day, Thompson said.
“We only provide a little extra to get through the day. But money adds up quick when you’re shopping for so many people.”
The society has yet to receive many donations through Shoppers Love, since it’s a new program.
They encourage you to follow the flyer and take advantage of Shoppers points events, while keeping them in mind.
