The Wayward Cat Society is helping homeless cats by hosting a video game fundraiser at the Colchester legion on April 22.
From 11 a.m.-5p.m. vendors will be selling games and visitors can play video games or board games on site.
“There will be a little bit of everything,” said volunteer Sara MacLean.
Patsy Oxner is the president of the society and fundraisers like this one are the main source of their income, she said.
“It goes towards everything we need to care for these colonies.”
Recently the society held a food-drive to help feed the cats within the program.
They received close to 100kg of dry food and 50 cans of wet food, but they’re still looking for more, said MacLean.
“Right now were really desperate for carriers.”
Spring locking carriers are best, so when cats are trapped they have a reliable way to get to the vet and back.
“It’s more than just getting neutered and spayed,” said MacLean.
Since January, the society has trapped and treated 78 cats. The goal for the end of the year is to treat 365.
Wayward helps treat cats that need to be spayed, neutered, or cats carrying diseases like the FLV or FIV virus.
There are 11 active volunteers, including four trained to trap the cats and bring them in.
“Were all strictly volunteers here,” Oxner said.
Without the support of the public, the society wouldn’t be able to accomplish the work they do, said MacLean.
“You can’t believe how kind the community has been to us.”
