Local actors in film: Weirdo's screened in Truro

By Amanda Doucette

Local performers are hitting the big screen in Truro later this week.

There is going to be a screening of the Nova Scotia made film Weirdo's, part of the National Canadian Film Festival day on April 19.

Sam Madore is helping plan the event and she says some of the performers and behind the scenes staff are from close to home too.

“What better way to showcase some local talent.”

Weirdos features Truro’s own Alex Purdy and Marc Almon from Halifax. The movie was filmed in Nova Scotia and has received two Canadian Screen awards, so far.

“We’re hoping to get lots of folks out, and people from behind the scenes too,” said Madore.

The movie is set in 1976 and will take you through a trip down memory lane, travelling through Eastern Canada.

The screening is an opportunity to both, get the word out about the movie and share the accomplishments of local performers, said Madore.

“It’s basically planting the seed for their success.”

The film is being screened at the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Alumni theatre on April 19, at 7:30 p.m.

It’s not just happening here, this year over 1700 screenings of Canadian made films, are planned across the country on April 19 for Canada’s 150 years. Over 60 international events are planned for the same cause. Increasing from last years, just over 400.
