When Kelly Henderson was selected to host the Transportation club of Moncton’s annual gala, she didn’t think she would be receiving an award as well.
Henderson is the Executive Director for the Trucking Human Resource Sector Council Atlantic. She received the Transportation Club’s Woman of the Year award at the Gala, and it was a complete surprise, she said.
“24 years ago they weren’t doing anything like this, so the industry has definitely advanced.”
Henderson has been working for the trucking industry for the last 24 years and watched it change firsthand throughout that period.
“The industry has treated me so well, I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”
At the gala they highlighted her achievements and success through the years, Henderson said.
“It was really a walk down memory lane for me. I’m so lucky to be part of an industry that changes everyday,” she said “There are so many possibilities in this industry to explore.”
THRSC Atlantic addresses concerns and opportunities within the Atlantic trucking industry, while educating and supporting others about the importance of the industry.
Jodi Martell, HR manager and National recruiter of the Day and Ross Transportation group, presented the award.
“Kelly Henderson truly embodies the spirit of this award and I was honored to present it to her on behalf of Day & Ross Transportation Group.”
The award goes to a woman in the industry who represents diversity, inclusion, growth and dedication to the company.
“When you make the workplace good for women you make it good for everyone,” said Martell.
There was a silent auction hosted at the gala and as Woman of the Year, Henderson was selected to choose a charity to donate the proceeds to.
The gala raised $1200 and donated this to the Truro Homeless Outreach Society on April 12, to support their fund for a new homeless shelter.
